Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris born October 20, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is also the first female vice-president as well as the highest ranking female official of the United American. She is a member and former US senator who represents California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Her first job was in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected as the district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 she was appointed Attorney General of California and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal and the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings earned the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
